The Molchansky Monastery is located in the town of Putivl. The architectural ensemble is compactly grouped on the top of the Seim hill. Its main buildings are the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God, located in the center, the bell tower, which is at the same time the entrance gate from the west, the refectory with the corner tower, the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist at the edge of the northern slope, the rectory building at the southern slope. The remains of powerful walls and formidable towers speak of the defensive significance in the old days. The stone fortress-monastery, called in the 16th-17th centuries Ostrog in the settlement, served as the residence of False Dmitry I, who aspired to sit on the Russian throne.
