Holy Intercession Church
Red Church, Church of the Intercession
Ukraine, Dnipro
The history of the Church of the Intercession (Vasylkivsky district, Rubanovskoye village) is connected with the legend of the Three Son, mentioned in Lesya Ukrainka's "Forest Song" and in Ivan Manzhura's poem "Tremsyn". The temple was built on the beautiful bank of the former Rostavitsa River by the founder of the Znamenovsky Monastery, Abbess Elizabeth, in memory of her Decembrist son (according to local legend). The relics of the locally venerated Hieromartyr Priest Alexander, martyred in 1918, and Abbess Elizabeth are buried in the church. Here the well-known monk John and Christ for the sake of holy fool Andrew labored here.
In 1776 A commission was appointed to collect information about the distributed Zaporozhye lands and whether the new owners had time to settle them. The captain of the then newly formed Black Sea Troops, Grigory Vasilenko, also got into this commission. Here is what we know from family papers about this first time “statistics” of our region. He went to Zaporizhia still young. Before the fall of the Sich, we meet him already among the "military foreman" "clerk" of the Kodatsky ferry on the Dnieper. After the destruction of the Sich - the captain of the Black Sea Army and the "statistician" of our region. In the 60s of the twentieth century, the temple was closed and partially destroyed. In 1991, at the request of the inhabitants of the village of Rubanovskoye, with the blessing of Bishop Gleb, the church was opened and a church community was registered. The territory is being improved, an orchard has been planted, there is a vegetable garden, flower beds have been laid out, a small lower church has been built, and a well in the yard. Near the temple, the burial places of priests and the founder of the village, the Cossack Ruban, have been preserved.
Previously, the temple was called the Red Church, it really is a beauty, it proudly rises above the village, surprising with its peace, grandeur and amazing bell ringing, returning hope, faith, love and kindness to people.
People from many cities of the Dnepropetrovsk region and neighboring regions come to the temple to bow to the relics of Priest Alexander and Abbess Elizabeth. So it is always crowded here, especially on holidays and weekends. This temple has one interesting feature. You need to enter the temple premises ... without shoes (or in change of shoes). The fact is that the floors in the temple are covered with carpets donated to the temple by the villagers. Therefore, if you decide to attend the service, take a change of slippers with you.
