The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a Roman Catholic church with the status of a minor basilica, one of the first stone structures in Chernivtsi. The temple was built in 1814 at the direction of the Austrian Emperor Joseph II instead of a wooden church, which was transferred to the Protestant community of the city. In 1866, an organ was installed in the church - one of the best in Europe in terms of sound. The high spire of the church was used as an observation post for the fire service. The interior of the temple has preserved unique stained-glass windows and wall paintings. Since 1818, a clock has been showing the time on the tower, and there is the oldest sundial in Western Ukraine on the side wall. In the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, concerts of classical and sacred music are held on significant dates.
