Assumption (Voznesensk) church, Luzhani
Ukraine, Chernivtsi
Ascension Church in the village of Luzhany west of Chernivtsi is the oldest stone church in the region. The church was built in 1453 by the landowner Dragomir Vranich, who owned the village. Then the area became the property of Fyodor Vitold, who repaired the temple, consecrated after repair in honor of the Ascension of Christ. The image of Witold in the form of a gray-haired horseman with a shield and a spear is preserved on the northern wall of the church. In 1816 the church was expanded. and in 1884 it was reconstructed. Strong buttresses were erected to support the walls. For some time, the relics of St. Ivan the New Suceava were kept in the church, until they were transported to Suceava - now the territory of Romania.
