House-ship - a three-story building of the late 19th century at the intersection of Glavnaya and Sholom Aleichem streets in Chernivtsi, resembling a ship in the Bukovinian dialect "shifa". Its tapering facade resembles the prow of a ship, the open area on the second floor is a deck, the turret above the roof is a mast or a pipe. On the bow of the first floor of the house-ship there is a once-working fountain, similar to a lion's head, with griffins near the bowl. The legend says that the house was built by a Chernivtsi businessman for his sailor brother, whom he called to return home after many years of wandering in distant countries.
On the site of the second residential floor were located two captain's bridges and two steering wheels. The sailor brothers went up on deck every morning to exercise. On holidays, they dressed in full dress naval uniforms and solemnly stood each at their own helm.

It really does look like a ship.

The house-ship (Shifa) is located on the central square of the city. There used to be an apartment building here. It really does look like a ship.→
