Church of John of Suceava

Church of John Suchavsky
Ukraine, Bilhorod Dnistrovskyi
The underground church of John Suceavsky was built over a stone well-source, where, according to legend, the Orthodox merchant John, who traded in Akkerman, often visited. John was killed here in 1330 for refusing to convert to Islam. A chapel was built on his grave, and the relics were transferred to the Moldavian Suceava - now it is the territory of Romania. Since then, John Suchavsky is considered the heavenly patron of merchants. The spring, named after St. John, is considered healing, a spacious font is arranged in it. A lot of people who want to improve their health come here from all the surroundings, pilgrims from Orthodox countries arrive.
At the end of the 19th century, a pavilion in the Byzantine style was built above the underground church. Nearby, on the same street, there is a Scythian grave.
