Arrow of Arabat
Ukraine, Arabat Spit
The age of the Arabat Spit is infantile by geological standards. It appeared on geographical maps for the first time only in 1650.
Scientists have established that the sinking of the Sivash and the Sea of Azov with the simultaneous formation of a narrow and long barrier between them occurred in 1100-1200. It was at this time that a giant factory for evaporating salt began to work. The spit, stretching for 112 km, blocked the waters of the Sea of Azov, leaving only a small Tonkiy strait for them in the northern part. As a result, in Sivash, due to natural evaporation, when water moves along the Strelka from north to south, the salt concentration increases by about 16 times.
Every year, 12 million cubic meters of water enters Sivash with Azov water. tons of salts - compounds of bromine, sodium, magnesium, and other valuable minerals. There are three similar sources of mineral raw materials in the world for obtaining natural carotene, which is widely used in medicine and the cosmetic industry, these are the Kara-Bogaz-Gol Bay in Russia, the Great Salt Lake in the USA. Rapa Sivash in its healing properties is in no way inferior to the Dead Sea located in the Middle East. Truly a royal gift of nature to these places.
The entire western part of the Arabat Spit, facing the Sea of Azov, is a sun-drenched beach. The gently sloping shore consists entirely of fine velvety sand. The underwater part is shallow, warms up to 28°-30°C, allowing long sea baths even for those who can't swim at all, which is especially important for children. Depth 2m. and more starts from a distance of 100m. from the edge of the land. The beach faces the open sea and allows you to get special pleasure from riding on non-hazardous waves. When, on the contrary, the sea is calm and the water looks like in an aquarium, there are many fans of watching underwater life simply by bending their heads, not to mention those who like to “fly” over shallow water in a mask with a snorkel and fins. Their eyes open up to an amazing underwater world, flocks of anchovy fry, mullet, pelengas, gloss, goby and other inhabitants of the sea.
“I have seen different seas, but honestly, there is no more kind, peaceful and human-friendly sea than the Sea of Azov. There is an extraordinary charm in his affectionate humility, in his readiness to give people everything that it is rich in…” These are the words from E. Feigin’s book “The Boy Dances in the Rain”. Everyone who visits at least once, on the Arabat Spit, takes away impressions similar to the one about which the writer so enthusiastically spoke.
Almost every second vacationer on the Arabat Spit is unable to resist the temptation to test himself and the role of a shrimp catcher. A small fine-mesh net or even a piece of gauze makes it possible for an hour and a half morning fishing to provide a thorough acquaintance with the southern delicacy. Children especially love boiled shrimp, besides, the fishing process itself is excitingly interesting. Goby fishing is another popular hobby for both locals and vacationers. At dawn, even before sunrise, the sea is at a distance of 800-1000m. from the shore is covered with many dark dots. These are rubber boats of fishing enthusiasts who arrived on this shore either from Murmansk, St. Petersburg, Sverdlovsk, or from a neighboring village, or Genichesk.
Mineral waters have been discovered on the Arabat Spit. According to the conclusion of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Balneology and Physiotherapy, these waters have a balneological value in terms of their mineralization, chemical composition and the presence of biologically active substances such as iodine, bromine, silicic acid. It is also important that these waters are thermal, they are supplied from a well with a temperature at the spout of 55°-65°C. They are already used to treat diseases of the musculoskeletal system, peripheral nervous system, etc.
In addition to healing thermal waters, Arabatka is rich in inexhaustible reserves of therapeutic mud. A huge number of them were found in the lakes of Salkovo, Genicheskoe and in the Strait of the Kruchenoe arm, located next to the Genichesk camp site. Another powerful healing factor is the brine (salt solution) of lakes and bays located along the entire arrow.
