Jozani National Park Fairy Forest

Jozani, or as it is also called the Fairy Forest, is the only national park in Zanzibar. Jozani is located between the bays of Uzi and Chvaka. It has the status of a reserve. Due to frequent seasonal floods, a special microclimate has developed here, which has contributed to the emergence of unique flora and fauna here. Jozani has become a haven for many wild animals, including endangered species. In the park you can see rare species of birds, plants, animals, including the Zanzibar leopard. Another feature of the park is that it is here, in the only place in the world, that the wild Red Colobus monkeys live.
There is a legend among the locals that shamans have long lived in Jozani, and even today some of them secretly come to this forest to perform their dark rituals.

A very modest park.

We drove from the village of Kendwa for more than an hour. Entrance $ 10, there were a lot of tourists, they stood in line. And were very disappointed, the park-forest is nothing special. Only the red colobuses pleased us, played and watched us, as we followed them, very close. We have not seen them anywhere else and this is the only thing that we were interested in. There is a lake with turtles, you can feed them seaweed from your hands. Bridges were built in the mangrove forest, but apart from crabs, cicadas and tourists, no other animals were met))) But ticked - WE were here! ))).→

Real Jungle

The famous monkeys are red colobus, in this park they can be seen in close proximity. At the entrance to the park, they give a guide who talks about the park in English and takes you to the most interesting places along scenic routes. Mangrove trees also grow in the park. The park is large, but the area of tourist routes can be bypassed in an hour and a half. It is forbidden to visit the park without a guide. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and closed clothing.
