This is one of the places in Stone Town that did not leave me indifferent. Here the curtain of the history of Zanzibar opens, with all its sorrows. Very tragic things are connected with this place. On the site of the present cathedral there used to be a slave market, where dark-skinned slaves waited for their sad fate. According to legend, the altar in the cathedral was built exactly on the spot where the slaves were subjected to corporal punishment. Next to the cathedral is a memorial to the martyred slaves.→
