The House of Wonders is probably the largest building in Zanzibar. It was named the House of Wonders because at the time of its construction, electricity, plumbing, and especially the elevator (probably now the only one in the whole of Zanzibar) were an unprecedented miracle. Now in the building of the palace there is a museum where you can get acquainted with the history of Zanzibar. In front of the entrance to the museum, a sign reads "someday a museum of the history of Zanzibar and the Swahili civilization will be arranged in this house.→
