Istiklal Street and its surroundings are very reminiscent of Budapest, its Pest part in the Keleti station area. A single-track old tram runs along Istiklal Street from Tunel to Taksim Square. Very romantic! The only pity is that the tram is always packed with people jumping on the footboard of the tram in the process of moving.
This is a completely "different" Istanbul - the habitat of poets, artists, musicians and government officials. It is on Istiklal that the embassies and consulates of many foreign powers are located, young people like to "hang out" here. Many restaurants, cafes and nightclubs of the "European type". There are a lot of boutiques of various brands ...I also really liked the antique second-hand bookshops, where you can buy an old photograph of Istanbul or some kind of brochure in Arabic as a souvenir. Agree, such a souvenir is much more original than "beaten" magnets and cups...
Although, a few new magnets still decorated our refrigerator : ).
