Uskudar is a district of Istanbul, located in the Asian part of the city. In the west it is washed by the Bosphorus. The name of the district comes from the Persian language and is translated as "messenger", since it was from here that pilgrims set off by caravan to Mecca and Medina. This gateway to Asia, once a Greek colony, has served as an active transport hub for thousands of years with a variety of routes. Uskudar is not only a trading town, it is full of countless cultural treasures.
The area is decorated with such sights as
Maiden Tower, Selima Barracks, as well as exquisite examples of Ottoman architecture (palaces, squares, pavilions), many parks, a long and beautiful coastline, various museums and some of Turkey's most sacred sites.
Uskudar is easily accessible from the European side of the city thanks to a reliable ferry network, here travelers get to know the real life of Istanbul.
