Turkey, Istanbul
Square in the old part of Istanbul (Chamberlitas microdistrict, Fatih district). On this square are the Column of Constantine (Chamberlitash), the Nurosmaniye Mosque, the central gate of the Grand Bazaar.
Chamberlitash Square is located on the site of the ancient forum of Emperor Constantine, of all the structures of which only the Constantine Column, built around 330, has partially survived. Initially, the column was 35 meters high and served as a pedestal for the statue of the emperor, but during the hurricane of 1106, the statue was destroyed.
The modern name of the column is Chemberlitash, which means "girded column" or "burnt column", these names are associated with the iron hoops that tighten the column and the regular fires from which this column suffered.
Nurosmaniye Mosque (Nuruosmaniye Camii) - one of the largest mosques in Istanbul, has one minaret. Next to the mosque is the central gate of the Nuruosmaniye Grand Bazaar. The mosque was built in 1775 and is an example of Turkish Rococo. Near the mosque there is a madrasah and a library.
