The Rahmi M. Koç Museum was opened in 1994 and is dedicated to the history of transport, communications and industry. It was founded by Turkish philanthropist, collector and millionaire Rahmi M. Koç. Most of the museum's exposition is his personal collection, ranging from old gramophone needles to a huge steam locomotive weighing several tens of tons.
Located on the northern shore of
Golden Horn and covers an area of 27,000 sq. The museum consists of 3 separate parts: the historical building Lengerhane (Anchor house), the historical shipyard Hasköy (Haskoy) and an open-air museum part for displaying large-scale and durable objects such as aircraft, a submarine, a ferry and a floating crane.
All exhibits are divided into departments - these are transport (railway, road, sea and air), toys, models, scientific instruments, communications and engineering technologies. The museum has a café, an English pub and a Mediterranean restaurant.
Children are thrilled to visit the "hands-on" gallery, where they can sit in an airplane cockpit, drive a vintage car, or do science experiments.
