St. Stephen's Church - an Orthodox church of the Bulgarian community, dedicated to the First Martyr Stephen, was opened to parishioners in 1898. The peculiarity of the church is that it is completely made of iron - that's why it was simply called the "Iron Church". The Bulgarian Church of St. Stephen is located in a park on the coast of the Golden Horn.
Initially, the temple was wooden, but after numerous fires and the inability to build a reinforced concrete church, it was decided to build it from iron. Its metal columns, wall panels, ceiling, and flower garlands were made in Vienna at the end of the 19th century. and brought on a barge along the Danube. The author of the project is the Armenian architect Aznavour. The interior of the church was created in the Art Nouveau style. Icons for the Iron Church were painted by the Russian artist Klavdy Lebedev. The iconostasis itself was made in Moscow. The first bells for the church were made in Yaroslavl.
