And one of the must-see places is, in my opinion, the castle of Marmaris. This fortress was built almost 500 years ago (in 1522) by order of Sultan Suleiman, on the site of an ancient Greek fortress, which at that time had long been destroyed. The castle itself resembles a fort and is quite small in size. During the First World War, the French fleet fired on the fortress and partially destroyed it, but about 30 years ago, Marmaris Castle was restored, and a wonderful museum with ancient Greek exhibits was opened inside. The cost of visiting the fortress is 27 lire.
