Ibrahim Agha Mosque
İbrahim Ağa Camii, Mosque of Ibrahim Agha, Pasha Ibrahim Mosque
Turkey, Marmaris
In the Kemeralti area next to the market, which is located twenty-two kilometers from the center of Marmaris, is the Ibrahim Agha Mosque, which is a traditional example of Ottoman architecture and is quite popular among pilgrims.
Its construction was completed in 1789.
This mosque has differences from earlier buildings of this kind, and these differences cannot be attributed to European influence. These differences were caused by the need to change something in the style of mosques, which had existed for too long. The architect did not try to oppose the classical Ottoman style for the Turks, but in an era of change he felt the need for innovation in the construction of mosques. However, the architect's lack of self-confidence and ingenuity led to a distortion of the traditional style of the mosque, the work became more pretentious and mannered.
