Bird Island is a small island located in the Aegean Sea, 350 meters from the center of Kusadasi. The island got its name because of the huge number of birds nesting here during seasonal migration. There is an ancient fortress on the island, which was built in the 16th century to protect the city from enemy attacks from the sea. Now in the northern tower of the fortress there is a museum, as well as a restaurant. The island is connected to the city by a causeway and an earthen road.
