Fortress of Kadifekale

Kadifekale Castle
Turkey, Izmir
One of the main attractions of the Turkish city of Izmir. The fortress of Kadifekale was built in the 4th century BC. e. one of the associates of Alexander the Great. Only five towers and one wall have survived to this day. The rest is a modern reconstruction. Translated from Turkish, Kadifekale means "Velvet Castle". The architectural monument is located on Pagos Hill, which offers a panoramic view of the city and the Gulf of Izmir.

An interesting attraction in the very center of Izmir. Kadifekale is not only the name of the fortress, but also the name of the hill on top of which it stands. The place is not difficult to find, it is enough to focus on the huge Turkish flag that flies over this place. It can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. The fortress itself has not been completely preserved, but in 2006 the government carried out a reconstruction. The entrance is free. Souvenirs and handmade carpets are sold on site.
