Chifte Minareli Madrasah
Twin Minaret, Çifte Minareli Medrese, Twin Minaret Madrasa
Turkey, Erzurum
Chifte Minareli Madrassah was built in 1253 by order of the Seljuk sultan Alaeddin II Keykubad, who made it for his daughter. The building of the madrasah is a quadrangle in plan with an open courtyard, in the middle of which there is a small pool. On the sides of the entrance are terraces, which are adjoined by many small rooms-cells.
Later, despite such a noble purpose of the madrasah, due to the tense situation in the region, Sultan Murad IV gave the building to the barracks.
After the restoration of this unique architectural monument in 1971, the madrasah was taken under state protection and is a symbol of Erzurum.
