House of the Virgin

House of the Virgin Mary
Turkey, Ephesus
A building in the ancient city of Ephesus (now the vicinity of the Turkish city of Selcuk), in which, according to legend, the Virgin Mary - the mother of Jesus Christ - took refuge during the persecution of Christians in Jerusalem. After reconstruction in 1950, the building, dating from the 1st century AD, became a chapel. Despite the fact that the Vatican does not officially recognize the House of the Virgin, this does not stop the crowds of pilgrims arriving in Ephesus to bow to this place.

What is special about this place? The legend says that the Virgin Mary, fleeing persecution, came here, lived here for the last years of her life and was allegedly buried. Of course, this is a matter of faith, but this place attracts many pilgrims. I got here on Sunday, the service was held in English, there were a lot of people. On the territory there is a bath for baptism, the house of the Virgin Mary itself, where you can put candles, springs with holy water and a wall of desires, where you can write a piece of paper with a desire, and then the monks will read a prayer and it will come true.
