Chaweng is the largest and most popular of all Koh Samui's beaches and is generally divided into three areas: North Chaweng, Central Chaweng and Chaweng Noi (Little Chaweng) around the southern cape. The beach here is very beautiful, local developers have finally cleaned out the weedy areas on the island. The beach is especially attractive for young travelers and young families.

The length of the beach is 7 kilometers, and it is covered with fine white sand. It is bordered by emerald blue waters and coral reefs against which waves break, making the bay itself quite quiet. Not far from the beach, near the reef, there are two small islands.

There are more people on the central part of the beach than on the quiet north. Plenty of vendors hang around nearby offering drinks, fruit, ice cream and local Thai food for the more adventurous. A wide variety of Thai souvenirs and locally made knick-knacks are also available.
The beach is most often accessed through hotels, as no roads lead to the beach itself, so as not to disturb the tranquility of this place. It's a very nice place to stay but gets noisier during the high season. The water is clear and its temperature is usually between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius.

Running parallel to the beach, Koh Samui's largest collection of restaurants, bars, souvenir shops and, of course, eateries and evening shops, runs in a line.
