Temple Wat Plai Lem
Wat Plai Laem, Wat Plai Laem, Temple Plai Laem
Thailand, Ko Samui
The temple is located on the northeastern tip of Koh Samui, not far from the Big Buddha. This is one of the largest and newest temple complexes on the island, it was built in 2004.
Wat Plai Laem Temple is recognized as one of the brightest and most beautiful temples of Koh Samui. The artist who worked on its decoration spent more than three years decorating the outer parts of the temple with exquisite details and sculptures. For example, the whimsical front doors are made from two huge layers of hardwood brought from Laos and are decorated with intricate carvings that tell of the life of the Buddha.
Inside the complex there are several small and very beautiful temples. On the territory there are many sculptures of fantastic creatures of Buddhist mythology, scenes from the history of Buddhism, images of the Buddha. The sculptures are made in a different manner - some are gilded, others are painted in bright colors.
The temple is also famous for the lake, which is located on its territory. This lake is home to hundreds of catfish of impressive size. Anyone can feed them. Food is sold at the temple.
But perhaps the most impressive detail of the temple ensemble is the statue of Buddha with 18 arms sitting in the center of the lake.
