The Palace Museum is located on Ratchavithi Street in Dusit Park next to the National Assembly. Vimanmek Palace is the world's largest building built entirely of "golden" teak wood. It consists of 3 parts, in which there are 81 rooms. The 2 wings of the palace are 60 meters long and 20 meters high.
The palace was built in 1900 under King Rama V (1868-1910) in his private park, which he named Dusit. From 1901 to 1906 the palace served as the king's summer residence. After the death of Rama V, the residence was used by King Rama VI and his wife, King Rama VII, during whose reign the palace was renovated.
Since 1982, the residence has become a museum. Its 31 exhibition halls contain collections of antiques, jewelry and a collection of royal items from the 19th and 20th centuries. A large exposition is devoted to the life of Rama V: photographs, personal items, books. The king's apartment, located on the third floor, has been completely restored to the way it was under the first owner. Here you can also watch traditional Thai dances.
