Cathedral of Saint Martin

St Martin's Cathedral in Bratislava, Dom sv. Martina
Slovakia, Bratislava
St. Martin's Cathedral is a grandiose cathedral of the 18th century, which has come down to our times, almost in its original form. The cathedral is one of the largest Gothic churches in Slovakia. The top of the western tower of the cathedral is crowned with the Hungarian royal crown, as a symbol of numerous monarchs crowned to the kingdom within the walls of the church. The interior of the temple is replete with sculptural compositions in the Baroque style and exquisite Gothic stained-glass windows.

Dominant of the whole Old Town of Bratislava is once the parish, then the university, and later the coronation cathedral of St. Martin. It is located on the modest Rudnaya Square, but is considered one of the main attractions of the city. The spire of its tower, which rises 85 meters, is crowned by a 300-kilogram gilded model of the crown of the Austrian emperors. It was with the original crown of St. Stephen that 18 monarchs were crowned king under the vaults of this Bratislava Cathedral. Coronations took place between 1563 and 1830.
