One of the most beautiful palaces in Bratislava, called the Redoubt, is located on Mostovy Street, which connects Hvezdoslav Square with Razusova Embankment. It was built in the neo-baroque style in 1913-1919 on the site of an old building, which from the end of the XIX century stood abandoned.

In 1906, the city authorities announced a creative competition for the construction of a new city palace. Everyone really liked the project of Budapest architects Desiderius Jacob and Marcel Komor. Due to the beginning of the First World War, some decorative details were completed only in 1919. The Redoubt building was intended for various performances, concerts and other entertainment, which gathered a wide variety of audiences. This building included several auditoriums. Sometimes movies were shown here. The Redoubt belonged to the city, after the Second World War it was nationalized and placed at the disposal of the Slovak Philharmonic, which is located here and now.
In addition to this institution, several halls of the palace belong to a famous restaurant and a huge casino.

The rectangular building, decorated with rich stucco and decorated with various architectural details typical of the Baroque, Rococo and Viennese Secession, is oriented with its longer facade on the narrow Mostova Street, where the main entrance is located. The upper floors of this monumental building with several concert halls can be reached by huge marble stairs located in the main lobby. Due to the rich arrangement, Bratislava's Redoubt is often compared to Dresden's Zwinger.
