Changi Museum
Changi Museum
Singapore, Singapore
This museum was created in memory of the prisoners who languished here during the Japanese occupation of Singapore. In the Changi prison from 1942 to 1945, up to 50 thousand prisoners were kept. In the courtyard of the museum there is a chapel that was once a beacon of hope for the desperate.
The museum exhibits numerous letters, drawings, photographs and personal belongings of the prisoners. The basis of the exposition are copies of the amazing frescoes with which Stanley Warren painted the walls of his casemate. The museum shows themed videos about these dark times of the Japanese occupation of Singapore. They tell about the courage and steadfastness of the island's defenders. Groups of schoolchildren are brought here to a history lesson dedicated to this period. Tourists can watch a video film that describes the history of the creation of the museum itself.
