Temple of a Thousand Lamps is one of the largest Buddhist temples in Singapore. It belongs to the Thai Theravada tradition. The temple was founded by the Thai monk Vuttisara in 1927.
The height of the main Buddha statue in the temple is 15 meters, and the weight is about 300 tons. The temple also contains many smaller Buddha statues, as well as murals illustrating the life of Shakyamuni Buddha. The large central statue is surrounded by a large number of light bulbs, switched on in the evening, from which the temple takes its nickname.
