Moscow Triumphal Gates - a monument in honor of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812. In 1814, a wooden Arc de Triomphe was erected on Tverskaya Zastava Square for the solemn meeting of Russian troops returning from Paris. But the wooden monument began to deteriorate and it was decided to replace it with a stone one. In 1826, the talented architect O.I. Bove was assigned to work on the project, but due to lack of money and the indifference of the city authorities, the opening of the monument took place only in 1834. In 1936, the arch was dismantled so that it would not interfere with traffic. In 1966-1968, the Arc de Triomphe was recreated according to the surviving drawings and photographs in a new location - on Kutuzovsky Prospekt. Together with the Borodino Battle panorama, the Kutuzovskaya Izba museum and nearby monuments, the arch forms a single historical and memorial complex.
The triumphal arch is surrounded by 12 sixteen-ton cast-iron columns, between them are cast figures of ancient Russian warriors, above the columns are high reliefs “Liberated Moscow” and “Expulsion of the Gauls from Moscow”. The arch is crowned with a chariot of Glory with six horses, driven by the winged goddess of victory Nike. The names of the creators of the arch, the history of its construction and reconstruction are cast on a cast-iron board installed under its arch.
The Triumphal Gates are an object of cultural heritage of regional significance.
