Europe Square on the Berezhkovskaya embankment of the Moskva River near the Kiev railway station opened on September 15, 2002, as a symbol of the unity of Europe. The architectural complex with an area of 3000 sq.m includes 48 columns with flags of European countries, the sculpture "The Rape of Europe" and the restaurant "Europe".
The compositional center of the square is the fountain "The Abduction of Europe" with a diameter of 26 meters by Yu.P. Platonov with a sculpture in the center of the fountain by the Belgian author Olivier Strebel. The sculpture in an abstract style is a skillful interweaving of stainless steel pipes 11 meters high and shows a scene from ancient Greek mythology, where Zeus, in the form of a bull, kidnaps the girl Europa.
The sculpture is located in the upper, fifth bowl of the fountain, around which many water jets from 354 nozzles beat. The lighting of the fountain consists of 200 halogen outdoor lights and 850 LED lights with dynamic lighting installed underwater.
