russia, Moscow
The State Museum of Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov was established in 2007 at the writer's first Moscow place of residence - in a communal apartment No. 50 at 10 Bolshaya Sadovaya Street, where the writer's family occupied a room since 1921. Interest in this address arose after the publication of the novel The Master and Margarita. Fans of the writer began to come to the 6th entrance of the famous house since the 1970s. The walls, the entrance staircase, the door of the mysterious "Bad Apartment" described in the novel, over time, were covered with drawings for the work, favorite quotes and appeals to the characters, concerts and performances were held here.
In another entrance of this house is the cultural and educational center "Bulgakov's House". The former profitable house No. 10 on B. Sadovaya is a monument of history and architecture in the Art Nouveau style, built by the owner of the Dukat tobacco factory, millionaire Ilya Pigit. Part of the museum's permanent exhibition is dedicated to the history and architecture of Pigit's House, it presents samples of stucco, wallpaper, documents, apartment plans, interior photographs.
Today, the museum has more than 1,000 exhibits, of which 800 are in the main fund. Of the 8 museum rooms, four have permanent exhibitions. The rest of the space, along with the corridor, is occupied by exhibitions: photography, painting, graphics, sculpture, books, installations. The museum hosts concerts, literary and cultural seminars, and performances of the Komediant theater on Bulgakov's theme, which are always popular.
