The Church of the Ascension of the Lord is an Orthodox church in the former
Kolomenskoye village near Moscow (now the territory of the city). It is difficult to imagine Kolomenskoye without the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, which is a masterpiece of world architecture of the 16th century. Erected in 1528-1532 on the right, steep bank of the Moskva River, in the form of a brick temple-tower 62 meters high. On the western side of the temple is a bell tower. This is one of the few surviving monuments from the era of Ivan the Terrible.
The church is jointly used by the Kolomenskoye Museum and the Patriarchal Metochion, founded here in 1994. In 1996, the Ascension Church was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
