Nevsky Prospekt is the main street of St. Petersburg. The avenue stretches for 4.5 km from the Admiralty to the Alexander Nevsky Lavra. It crosses the rivers Moika (Green Bridge), Griboedov Canal (Kazansky Bridge), Fontanka (Anichkov Bridge). The largest width is 60 m (at Gostiny Dvor), the smallest is 25 m (at the Moika).
The right side (odd) is informally called "shady", the even side is called "sunny" (a popular place for walking).
Nevsky Prospekt, being the central city street, is the venue for all city celebrations. Usually, on the part of the avenue from the beginning to the Fontanka River, car traffic is closed on New Year, Victory Day and City Day.
