On our first trip to St. Petersburg, we could not ignore the Hermitage. For an art museum of this level, one is not enough to visit. A huge number of paintings - if at first you look at each one, then after half an hour everything starts to merge into one spot, after another half an hour your legs start to hurt and you want to sit down and take a break from beauty. The following strategy was developed - it is unrealistic to watch everything at once, we only watch certain artists. A thoughtful study of the Hermitage takes at least a week, but it is a must see!.

On the tour were a group on the tour. With a student card they made a discount on admission. The tour was first conducted by a guide, and then given time to wander through the halls. As a result, in four hours we did not have time to get around it all. It was very interesting, now there is a reason to come again to this wonderful city.

I advise everyone to visit this unique museum. But know that a day is not enough for him! 3 days is the minimum to slowly walk through the halls and look at the masterpieces.

Given that I served in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), I was often near him at the district headquarters. You know him from the arch of the General Staff (he was often in films), so I visited the Hermitage quite often. As a soldier, he had benefits, free admission. I remember a few moments. They brought an exhibition of paintings from the Metropolitan Museum (New York), the queue was gigantic, they let me out of the queue (poor soldier, but you are interested in painting! ). Naturally, I would not be able to see these masterpieces in a different way.

My attempts to "go through" the Hermitage have always ended in disappointment. Firstly, from the fact that I still didn’t have time, and secondly, from the fact that after 2-3 hours of contemplation, sensitivity to beauty is lost and looking at pictures begins. If a great sculptor spent 15 years creating a miracle, how dare I give him 15 seconds? Better not to watch at all, ignoramus! Therefore, when you go to the Hermitage - do not try to cover everything. Set clear, small goals for yourself.
