Fortress in the historical center of Belgrade, a great place for walking for the whole day. The fortress on a hill at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers has stood since the time of the Romans, when the settlement was also called Singidunum. Later, the fortress was in the hands of the Byzantines, Austrians, Ottomans ...The latter gave the name Kalemegdan (from the Turkish words kale (fortress, castle) and meydan (square). The fortress was repeatedly destroyed almost to the ground as a result of the Austrian-Ottoman battles, then during world wars, but each time rebuilt anew.→
