Monastery Moldovica is an Orthodox convent located in the village of Vatra Moldovica in South Bukovina. The monastery was founded in 1532 by Petru Rares as a defensive fortification against the Ottoman army. In 1650 the monastery was plundered, and in 1785 it was completely abolished. It was restored only after 150 years, and now there are about 60 nuns in its parish. The monastery is famous for its wall frescoes, which are characterized by the predominance of yellow and blue colors. The plots of wall paintings illustrate scenes from biblical legends, as well as historical events, in particular, the capture of Constantinople.
