The historical quarter of Lipscani is considered the Old City of Bucharest. Under the communist regime in the second half of the twentieth century. a fifth of it was destroyed during the construction of the Civic Center. There are many small beautiful streets, various sculptures and miraculously preserved houses of the 19th-early 20th centuries concentrated here. The main streets of the Old Town are Strada Lipscani, Strada Smardan, Strada Gabroveni and Strada Franceza. It is very entertaining to stroll along the oldest street in Bucharest - Cale Victoria, the western border of the Old Quarter, as you can see the amazing buildings of the Cantacuzino Palace, the Military Club and the National Historical Museum. In the very center of the Old Town there are interesting buildings, houses and mansions of the 19th-early 20th centuries, which were reconstructed in the post-communist era. Today, the Old Town houses many hotels and restaurants, shops and antique shops, bars and nightclubs, as well as various galleries.
