The National Museum of Art of Romania was founded in 1950. It is housed in the neoclassical building of the former Royal Palace. Its museum funds contain about 60 thousand exhibits, which are divided into two parts - national and foreign art. The basis of the museum was the personal collection of paintings by King Carol I. The expositions of the National Museum of Art include not only paintings and icons, but also sculptures, coins, furniture, engravings, books, antique clothes, carpets, tapestries and faience. Here you can see the works of Romanian sculptors and artists Y. Andreescu, N. Grigorescu, D. Pachurea and others, as well as such famous painters as Rembrandt, Monet, El Greco, Zurbaran, Rubens, Repin and Aivazovsky.
