The promenade of Vila Nova de Gaia, a satellite city of Porto on the opposite bank of the Douro River, is the ideal place to get up close and personal with port wine: its origins, flavors and varieties. The history of this city is closely connected with the export of wine since the Middle Ages. Almost everyone, from more than fifty local producers of port wine, has its own tasting room, shop and cellar for storing and maturing wine here. The best known are Taylor's, Graham's, Sandeman, Calem, Kopke and Ferreira.→
