The Douro River gives a unique charm to the city of Porto. This is especially felt in the coastal and oldest part of the city - Ribeira. Every day, many pleasure boats and ships sail up and down the Douro River from the pier located in this quarter. The most popular route is called "Six Bridges of Porto", during which you can see in detail the features and design of the six city bridges, as well as admire the surrounding beauty.

In Porto on the Douro River there are several bridges and each of them is beautiful and original in its own way. We would especially like to mention the delightful and oldest openwork arched bridges of Porto - Don Luis I and Maria Pia, designed by Gustave Eiffel and his student Theophilus Serig. The St. John's Railway Bridge and the Arrabida Road Bridge are quite unusual and modern.
The other two bridges - Freiho and Don Infanta Enrique do not make much of an impression, although they fit perfectly into the surrounding landscape.

Our trip lasted about an hour. A small boat sails almost to the mouth of the Douro River, and then sails back. From the ship you can fully enjoy the amazingly beautiful scenery. The river also offers excellent views of the ancient architecture of the Ribeira district and the modern buildings of Vila Nova de Gaia, next to Porto.

The cost of the walk is 12.5 euros per person and in good weather it is especially nice to walk on the waters of the Douro River. After this walk you will really understand how magnificent Porto is! It amazes with its power, relief and breath of antiquity much more than the capital Lisbon.
