There are many beautiful churches in Porto and it is really difficult to single out one particular one. Church of St. Anthony Congregados is no exception.

The building of this small temple was built in the late 17th - early 18th centuries. on the basis of the already existing chapel as part of its expansion. The church is dedicated to Saint Anthony, a revered preacher and Franciscan priest originally from Lisbon, and designed by the famous architect of the time, Joaquim Jaime Ferreira-Alves.

The main facade of the temple has a rather restrained and simple appearance, but with some baroque features. In the upper portico of the facade there is a niche with a statue of St. Anthony. The outer walls of the church are lined with wonderful white and blue azulejo tiles depicting scenes from the life of the temple's patron.
In contrast to the exterior, the interior of the church has a rich decor - luxurious gilded altars, beautiful wall frescoes and stained-glass windows look especially expressive here.

Congregados Church is close to Sao Bento train station and can be seen from afar due to its location. Since this is a functioning temple, the entrance is free.
