Fado is a folk romance or lyrical song that is an important part and main feature of Portuguese culture. This national music is performed with a guitar and is filled with sadness and melancholy. Fado has two main directions with centers in Lisbon and Coimbra, and if the first is performed by both men and women, then the second is performed exclusively by men. The songs are mainly dedicated to longing in various forms and express romantic sadness for something that is irretrievably lost. In Portugal, this feeling is even called a separate word - "Saudade".→
