Cape San Vicente
Cape San Vicente, Cape St.Vincent, Cape Saint Vincent
Portugal, Algarve
The cape is the most southwestern point of Europe. Every evening, people gather on the high rocky coast of the cape next to the picturesque lighthouse to watch one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. The ancient Romans called this cape Saint. They considered it a sacred place where the sun, hissing, sets into the ocean. This cape was the end of the world for them. The modern name of the cape is rooted in the legend of Saint Vincent, who was martyred - his body was found on this cape.
Near the cape stands the small village of Sagres. Next to it, in the 15th century, a navigation school was opened, from the walls of which the famous navigator Vasco da Gama emerged. Only a stone platform remained from the school itself, on which the remains of a 43-meter "wind rose" are visible.
