Museum of the Tatras
Museum Tatrzańskie im. dra Tytusa Chałubińskiego w Zakopanem
Poland, Zakopane
Located in Zakopane, this museum is rightfully ranked among the oldest museums in Poland (its opening date is 1888).
The Tatra Museum was founded by Tit Halubinski and his comrades, who wanted to organize a museum that would tell about the value of their city of Zakopane. Tit Halubinski was an outstanding doctor and considered the Tatras to be a unique place for spa treatment. Thanks to the efforts of this outstanding man and his friends, in the first collections of the opened museum, many different collections were presented - zoological, geographical, biological and ethnographic, as well as a library with the rarest copies of books.
The modern Tatra Museum is a permanent exhibition that tells tourists about the amazing nature of the local region, about local traditions and the history of the surroundings of Zakopane. This local history museum presents the rarest exhibits that tell about the life, traditions and culture of the local population. Today, the Tatra Museum has many branches in different cities of Poland.
