Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Mary Magdalene
Cerkiew Sw. Marii Magdaleny, Orthodox Church of St. Mary Magdalen
Poland, Warsaw
"Orthodox Cathedral of St. Mary Magdalene" was built in 1869, it is located in the center of Warsaw in the Prague district. The church was focused mainly on Russian parishioners, since in the 19th century Warsaw was flooded with a rapid flow of immigrants from Russia. The Russian-Byzantine style cathedral was designed by Russian architect Nikolai Sychev. The decoration of the murals inside the temple was also made by Russian masters. It was possible to preserve in the original: the gilded altar, iconostasis and frescoes of the temple during the occupation of Warsaw by German troops.
