"New Town" or "New Warsaw" is one of the oldest districts of Warsaw, which appeared at the turn of the 14th-15th centuries. Initially, the district was a separate city with its own city council and town hall. The buildings in this part of Warsaw were not distinguished by elegance, it was an ordinary residential area, in which mainly wealthy merchants, artisans and burghers settled. The original building of the New City was almost completely destroyed during the bombing of the Second World War. Now the New Town is the busiest district of Warsaw and the focus of the main attractions, among them: the Raczynski Palace, the Main Archive, the Sapieha Palace, the Church of the Holy Spirit, the Church of St. Kazimierz, the Warsaw Citadel and the Market Square of the New Town itself.
