Institute of Jewish History
Jewish Historical Institute, ZIH, Żydowski Instytut Historyczny
Poland, Warsaw
The Institute of Jewish History is a research institute organized by the Jewish community of Poland to study and preserve their national cultural and historical heritage. The foundation of the institute was preceded by the creation of the "Central Jewish Historical Commission" after the liberation of Poland from the German occupation, which was later transformed into the "Institute of Jewish History". The archives and libraries of the institute contain historical documents, rare books, manuscripts and photographs, which were transferred to the museum's collection from all cities of Poland. An extensive part of the research institute's collection is dedicated to the Holocaust. Since 1948, on the basis of the institute, popular scientific publications have been published in two languages: Yiddish and Polish.
