Monument to goats in Poznań

Poznań goats Pyrek and Tyrek
Poland, Poznan
The monument to the goats is located on Kolegyatsky Square. It was designed by sculptor Robert Sobochinsky and opened in 2002. The monument is a reference to other goats from the town hall tower, which are symbols of Poznań. In 2013, a competition was held, as a result of which the goats were given the names Pyrek and Tyrek. Thanks to the opportunity to sit on the backs of animals and take pictures, the monument is in great demand among tourists, becoming another landmark of the city.

Each city has its own symbol (even if not official), but in Poznan they chose - butting goats! According to legend, it was 2 goats who saved the city by climbing up the mountain (or the town hall according to one of the options) to escape from the butcher's knife. When the owner took them off, he noticed from a height an enemy army approaching the city and was able to warn the inhabitants in time, who successfully organized the defense. Since then, the goats have appeared on the coat of arms of the city and have generally been replicated in various forms.
