It was from Tumski Island (on the Warta River and the Tsybina River flowing into it) that the whole history of Poznan began. According to legend, the ancestors of three Slavic peoples met at this place - Lech, Rus and Czech. The brothers immediately recognized each other and very joyfully exclaimed: “Learn! Know! ” (i. e. , they learned). And in memory of the meeting, it was decided to build a city on the Warth and call it Poznań.

And according to archaeological excavations, the most ancient population existed here as early as the 10th century. In 968, a Polish bishopric was founded here and a cathedral was built. From this came the name of the island Tumsky-Cathedral Island or Cathedral Island (for more details, http://studytoeu. com/index. php/articles/614-tumskij-ostrov-v-poznani-kolybel-polskoj-gosudarstvennosti ).

Now it is rather not a historical, but more of a religious place. To get to the island itself, move east of the center (market), cross the bridge over the Varta River - and you are already there.
Transport goes to the island, but it is quite expensive (4-7 zł depending on the ticket option). It's very quiet and peaceful here. And although we expected more, we are glad that we visited and noted, a pleasant place.
