The first mention in written sources of the Cathedral of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul is found in 1208 (then it was still just a church). The names of the builders of the cathedral have not been preserved. In the second quarter of the 14th century, the old church building was completely remodeled. The church was expanded from the western and eastern sides. As a result, by 1380 Legnica received an impressive, massive three-aisled cathedral. The western portal of the cathedral is decorated with a statue of the Virgin Mary with Child, which was created in the period from 1338 to 1341.→
